The Language of Painting course has branched out this fall into three different areas of focus: the foundations of painting; learnings from great abstract painters; and exploring your unique voice. They are designed so that students may enroll in multiple parts/levels depending on your areas of need.

I’ve also added an accessible and fun Sunday workshop once a month and a Studio Immersion in late October.
Enjoy and please get in touch with questions or to enroll.

Idea → Insight → Process → Painting

If you’ve ever felt the nudge of a good idea but weren’t sure how to grow it into a strong painting, this week is for you.

We’ll begin by harvesting your best inklings—brainstorming, layering ideas, and creating clarifying sketches—so your work starts with intention.

On Tuesday morning, we head to the Santa Barbara Art Museum, followed by stimulating conversation over lunch, then we’ll come right back to the studio to translate and integrate the inspiration while it’s alive.

From there, you’ll dive into a substantial piece, learning how to navigate the beautiful, messy middle of the process with curiosity and greater confidence.

We’ll finish by refining, reflecting, and mapping your next steps—so that you leave the workshop with studies, a significant work-in-progress, and a clear plan for creating artwork that is stronger and more meaningful to you.

Small group with lots of individual coaching.

This workshop was developed to help students learn new methods for creative inquiry inside and outside the studio in order to strengthen their art practice. The Art of Inquiry is best for students with some painting experience. Adventurous Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced painting students and Professional Artists are welcome.

Limited to four participants. Space still available.
Please email ekundell@gmail.com with any questions and to register for this immersive studio experience.

Connect & Create

Desperate times called for creative measures.
In the early days of the pandemic, Spring and Summer of 2020, we gathered online for creative nourishment, community and co-working time. All sessions began with improvisational play in a variety of media and topics, from poetry and paint to performance.
